We’re Revamping Tumblr Hearts

tumblrhearts:

Foreword

There has been a serious inactivity problem in this roleplay.  As such, we have decided it is best to revamp Tumblr Hearts.  This will require a bit of work on everybody’s part, but if you didn’t want to write and participate, then why are you here?

Seriously - in this post, you will find a lot of information on the new hiatus and probation systems.

Aqua missed the small window she was given, just by a split-second. She wasn’t Ven after all, so speed wasn’t quite as much her strength as it was his. Before she could even realize that Vanitas was already gone and that what she was facing was just left behind image, already she felt the weapon painfully striking her from behind. Getting away as quickly as possible, Aqua jumped. The back was throbbing. The pain was great. She tried to get some distance on Vanitas, then quickly rose her Keyblade to cast “Curaga”.

A sly grin shifting up his face, Vanitas took a low sprint in Aqua’s direction, before disappearing under the ground beneath them. The rumbling came quickly, allowing Aqua just enough time to heal her wound before the shaking ground delivered Vanitas closer and ever closer to his target. But he didn’t seem too anxious to go straight from Point A to Point B. No, instead, he wormed his way around her, seeming to circle the older Wielder. Toying with her. Taunting with her. Vanitas had come here to face Aqua. He knew this round was on his terms. And he was taking full advantage of it.

Aqua had a trouble keeping up with Vanitas’ movement. He was fast, very fast- the thought of how much he resembled Ven in this respect became more and more prevelant in her mind. Finally, she had an idea.

(Wait… If he relies on speed just as much as Ventus… Maybe he got some of the same weakpoints too then…!)

Aqua knew that she was gambling, but this was her only chance. She quickly thought through all her training sessions with her younger friend… Then she stood there, positioned, and waited for Vanitas to engage her. It would all be a matter of the timing then…

way-finding-ventus:

There was a small inkling of a tingle shooting through his body as Aqua fired the spell in his direction. Then everything froze for the tiniest of milliseconds, and that’s when it hit and Ven could feel himself dragging. Everything else seemed so fast compared to him.. he could barely understand Aqua, but the appearing targets and the expression said it all; time to prove himself!

It took a moment to adjust to the drop in mobility rate and it irked the boy that this bothered him so much. Did he really rely so much on his speed?
Shaking the thought out of his head, Ventus nodded to whatever Aqua had said and steadied himself before dashing forward and— … Oh, that was right, he couldn’t ‘dash’. More like snailed his way towards the first and closest target before building up a swing when just a few steps away and lunging forward.

After not feeling the impact of the target against the end of his blade, he stood up straight and pondered why the target in question was still so in tact. He had built up enough to break it straight in half..
Then it came to him, and he frowned. He was still just over two steps away from the target and, at normal speed, he could’ve easily closed in on it within the time it took to start an attack.. but not when he was this slow; he would have to learn to home in on the enemies - get closer to them, deal more damage.

With this in mind, he veered back and shot the other two a look, as if to them not to count him out yet, and took off once more.
This time, he brought his arm back when he reached the distance he had stopped at before, just a few steps away, and brought it down on the stationary target, breaking it clean in two.  The sense of elation filled him as he took a stance again and approached another, doing the same thing.
Maybe he had been going about this the wrong way, he could see now that it was wrong to depend so much on one factor - his speed - when of course it would be more sensible to engage it with his other qualities to develop a more successful style. His current had proved him powerful and quick on his feet, but also left him open for retaliation or blocking since he gave his game away too early. If he got in closer, and used his speed, he could deal a more powerful blow and get away quickly. Out of harm’s way.

He fired down three more ground-based targets and one air-born one using this same method before he landed and turned to Aqua, positively brimming with pride.

“Come on, I’m getting bored here!” He grinned, confidence of his new-found ability flowing through his veins.

“Heheh! Yeah, I can see that!!” Aqua called and made more targets appear.

“Keep going, Ven! You’re doing great! Try to damage more targets with less hits too!”

((No posts today because big announcement in other Fandom kinda grabbed my attention. Will post again tomorrow. Sorry for the inconvenience. ^^;))

“…Roxas!!”

“There you are!!… It’s really you this time, right? Wow, I’m so glad to see you! “

Xion actually leaps forward and gives Roxas a big hug.

“Axel and me have been looking for you all over! He’s been missing you like crazy too! Let’s head for the clocktower right now, alright?”

Yes its really me Xion. I have missed you and would love to head to the clock tower with you right now. I’ve missed Axel and you both like crazy

“No wonder, you’ve been gone for a while! Just what Mission did Saix… Ah, never mind!”

Xion took a few steps forward and opened a corridor.

“This way! We’ll just go, get Axel and then it’s off to the tower~!”

“Terra, don’t worry, you’re on the right way. Your spell did what it was supposed to, right?” Aqua smiled. “You just should also always keep some healing Magic in your reportoir as well. Relying on items may be faster and more precise, but it also tends to get you broke faster than you can think. As long as Munny doesn’t start growing on trees, I’ll personally always favor a good Cure-type spell over expensive potions, if you ask me.”

Aqua then turned her head to follow Terra’s suggestion and think of what to do for Ven’s training. Since they were focusing on their weaknesses today and were trying to each help the other overcome their, Aqua thought of what exactly Ven’s “weakness” might be.

“Ven got an amazing style when it comes to velocity, but I’ve notices… you tend to sort of use the number of hits you can deal in a shorter time to make up for the fact that you don’t deal a lot of damage, right?”

The last part was directed at Ventus, of course.

“But imagine you get into a situation where you can’t rely on your speed, like, if you’re wounded and can’t move too much, or if you are forced to carry something or someone. If you’re slowed down, that’d greatly handicap one. Maybe we should focus now how you can work around that problem!”

Then youngest immediately won his smile back at the other’s encouragement. He switched focus from Terra to Aqua and he hesitated slightly before clenching his fists and nodding; wearing a determined expression. He could do this!

“Alright!”
What Aqua was explaining did make sense.. this was his chance to prove that he could be just as powerful as he was fast! Sure, he was a little nervous, but he couldn’t let that show after his friends had shown such resilience right there in front of him just moments before. After all, he was going to be as strong as them one day!
With this in mind, he quickly summoned his on Wayward Wind and adopted a readying stance. “..Bring it!”

“Good, we’ll start off easy,” Aqua replied, summoning her Keyblade. She made just a short movement in Ven’s direction with it.

“It could tickle the first moment, don’t be surprised! …Slow!”

She cast her timespell at the younger boy, rendering him notably slower. Then, she  cast another spell, summoning some targets, scattered throughout the area. They seemed to be placed in a strategical way.

“Here! Try to take out as many of those as you can until the spell wears off!” Aqua told him. “No cheating! The moment you’re back to normal, you have to stop attacking!”

Aqua knew that unlike with her before, muscletraining wasn’t exactly what Ven needed. Especially becaus a heavy defense or mighty blows would only hinder him with his usual style. What he needed was to be clever about how to apply the power he had, regardless of his condition. This should be a good exercise for that.

Ventus gave a soft sigh as he got the feeling the two were disappointed. Though from past experiences and similar situations, he knew this was not the case – but he couldn’t help but feel it.

“Sorry..” He murmured, lowering his head and settling back to his knees again. He had overreacted again, and in hindsight now he felt stupid for doing so, and acting as if he thought Aqua wasn’t strong enough to handle the situation on her own.

In reality, he knew -and had always, always thought - that Aqua was more than capable. He could see it in the way she talked, even. so knowledgeable and wise about everything she chose to interest herself in. Aqua knew everything.  And Terra could do everything; Ven was just.. there.
”.. I got.. worried is all.” Another small murmur, and his voice cracked in an obvious way but he kept his head low and tried to brush it off.

Terra felt his cheeks burn as he tried not to look stupid. “I-I had it under control!” He stammered. Well, of course Aqua was already onto him—there was no real point in denying it any further. He huffed, blowing his bangs out of his face… Leave it to her to play along before making him look like a fool, although she probably didn’t mean it.

“I guess I’m sorry… I thought I could pull it off and I didn’t want to admit I couldn’t fully control my own magic.” To be honest, the thought of him losing control of power and unintentionally hurting any one of them frightened him, not that he’d admit that detail of course. He turned to Ven who seemed rather downcast. “Hey, sorry for yelling at you Ven. I was… well I was, um, scared to admit that you might’ve been right… that I was pushing things too far.” He cracked a smile, “But things turned out all right, right? I know it’s normally Aqua’s job, but it’s still nice knowing we can count on you to make sure we don’t get too focused on training.”

He lightly bumped the other’s shoulder. “Well Aqua and I have already went through our own rounds. I guess it’s your turn to show off for a bit.” He nodded to Aqua, acknowledging her words and advice. “What should we have him do?”

“Terra, don’t worry, you’re on the right way. Your spell did what it was supposed to, right?” Aqua smiled. “You just should also always keep some healing Magic in your reportoir as well. Relying on items may be faster and more precise, but it also tends to get you broke faster than you can think. Ventus had sat tight drifting between a world of his own and focusing his friends’ movements; mimicking them in his mind. He loved to watch them both fight because there was a certain feeling of security, they both knew when to stop and there was very little danger of either getting hurt, which is why he enjoyed their training sessions more than anything.

When he saw Aqua struggling to stand, however, alarm bells went off and he pushed out his daydreams and swapped his absent-mindedness for a look of concern. Was this.. going too far?

“.. Terra!” He called, standing and rushing over to the two. He crouched beside the blue haired woman and placed a hand on her shoulder, pleading with her to stop before she pushed herself too far and the weight of the spell broke her back.

“Terra break the spell!” A frowned look shared with concern and confusion shot its way in the brunet’s direction as he stayed put beside Aqua. The small laugh that emitted from her had caught him off guard, and he grit his teeth in worry. They were both going too far..

“Calm down, Ven!” Terra blurted without thinking. “Aqua’s doing fine… Leave her be.”

But was she? It certainly appeared that way and Terra couldn’t help but admire her determination. He could practically see how daunting the weight was on her entire body, but Aqua showed no signs of faltering…

Wait, but what if Ventus was right? What if she was going to hurt herself by refusing to stop out of pride? Aqua wasn’t that rash, was she? He didn’t want to admit that he didn’t know how to lift the spell, but if this was a matter of his friend’s safety…

“Well, er… Just don’t push yourself too hard, okay?” He called to her. If it came to it, he could probably try a Zero Gravity to balance out the pressure.

A few more pushups Aqua could manage while the boys spoke, just 2 or 3. Then, before Terra had even finished his last sentence, her arms gave away. She landed flat on her stomach and laughed.

“Ahah… So much for that, I guess.”

She made an attempt to sit up, but failed. She snickered, before she, not even summoning her Keyblade, made a slight movement with her hand and whispered an incantation. She cast “Esuna” on herself. Then, she sat up like normally and took a deep breath.

Once she finished, she adressed Terra,

“Esuna,” she said. Of course she had noticed that Terra had been at complete loss how to lift his own spell, so her explanation continued. “It’s the spell that cures negative supernatural effects on your body. It doesn’t matter if those effects are a venom or a curse. As long as there’s just a hint of Magic in them, Esuna will do it’s work. Remember that, alright?”

That said, she leaned against a nearby rock, popped open a bottle of potion she had on her and took a sip. Now, she looked at Ven - though she was also glancing at Terra occasionally - and spoke calmly,

“It’s true, we need to know our limits. But at the same time, if we never challenge ourselves, we’ll also never know how far we really can go and how good we really can get. Focusing only on our strengths will result in an overspecialization. What good is a Keyblade, if all I ever do is casting spells and can’t endure battle for even a minute once the enemy has come close to me? What good is strength if you’ve got no way to defend yourself from enemies only volunerable to Magic? What good is the most steadfest stance if you can’t hit a quicker enemy for your life? And how much worth is the most speed if you can’t do any damage once you’ve come close to the enemy?”

She leans back, “We’ve all got our unique strengths, but we also need to work on our weaknesses. And to do that, we need to push ourselves. Not too far, but always a step beyond what we think we can do. Only if we do this we can keep getting better and find out where our real limits are… right?”

Aqua finished her bottle of potion and smiled at the boys.

Terra’s distraction worked perfectly. Aqua dashed into the room as quickly as she could, scanning her environment with a sharp eye as soon as she had entered. She was hoping to find anything that could pass for a “source”: A nest, a spell, a kind of portal, anything… However, instead she was forced with dark energy appearing seemingly out of nowhere and manifesting physically right before her before she could even think about it. No matter how hard she looked, she couldn’t pinpoint a source.

“There’s… even more!!” she spoke loudly enough for Terra to hear her outside.

“Terra… this is no use! Defeating them won’t do any good if they will just reappear! We need to think of something else and inform the Master!”

“What?” He stopped his series of attacks to spare a fleeting glance into a storage room, catching sight of the dark energy. “How did that get there?”

“Okay, Aqua! I think I got something to give us a little more time. Come on and get out of there.”

“If I knew that, this would all be much easier!” Aqua replied to Terra’s question, before nodding in response to what he said after, “Alright!! I am coming!”

Three cartwheels and Aqua landed on her feet, right besides Terra, in battle position and her head turned for him.

“Alright. Your plan, Terra?”

Terra shrugged. “Well, it’s not much of a plan, but let’s hope it works.”

Holding his keyblade up again, Terra cast another Magnega. Instead of pummeling the jars right afterward like before, he called on his magic reserves for a second time and cast a Blizzard spell, freezing the monsters in a giant chunk of ice.

Before the newly-formed glacier could crash to the ground, Terra spun around in a complete 360, and holding his keyblade like a bat, he smacked the cluster of frozen monsters right into the storage room. Kicking the door shut, he locked it with his keyblade.

Terra grinned. “Well, it was more of an improvisation, but aren’t you proud?” He laughed a bit. “Anyway, I don’t think that’ll hold them forever, but it’ll give us time to think of something a little more… permanent.”

“Yeah. I’m sure the Master is not gonna be pleased if we tell him we couldn’t prepare lunch because there were monster’s in the storage room… And neither will Ven’s empty stomach be.”

Aqua tried to sound humorous when saying this, but she couldn’t mask the note of worry in her voice.

“…OK. We can do one of three things now. One, we go and tell the Master about the problem so he can find a solution. Two, we search the source ourselves and try to take care of it alone. Three, we open that door and simply start Wiping them all out until none are left. You probably know already, but I’d personally really oppose option three. How about you?”

((Pushing this up, because I know Vani wanted to join in. If it’s here, he can find it more easily and we can restart sooner))
